Polish Trip 2023 - PART 1

Visiting historic Krakow, "Rollercoaster Capital of Europe" Energylandia
and exploring the hidden depths of the Old Town!
The journey to Krakow
My latest foray to Gatwick, amidst the Air Traffic Control Lottery, was a trip to Krakow, a last-minute spontaneous decision taken a couple of months ago, when my wanderlust kicked in shortly after my Scandinavian Trip! Sometimes things just have to be done in life don’t they!
Anyway, I managed to get a great deal on Flights and Hotel, so off I set for a civilised evening departure. For the first time since 2019, it would be a more conventional trip away without multi-stops!
Perhaps all the issues with Air Traffic weren’t quite ironed out, or we were delayed due to an impending thunderstorm, as eventually after navigating most of the tarmac we set off 45 minutes late. I couldn’t really fault EasyJet after that, especially with the added bonus of having the whole row to myself - plenty of legroom!
A pretty quick check through the non-eu Passport Control, and it was a quick hop over the footbridge to the Train station, integrated fully into the Airport here much like Gatwick. I used the KOLEO App to book my ticket to Krakow Glowny, the main station, which seemed a much better option than using the slow station machines.
As it was a last-minute trip, I went with a trusty Ibis, as it was in a prime spot next to the station (in fact, there is a direct walkway from the hotel to the platforms), and for £35 a night was good value in today’s times.
By now, it was nearly 11pm and the end of day 1. Time to recharge for a energetic few upcoming days at the Rollercoaster Capital of Europe, Energylandia!
